Off the field: be ready to communicate and perform
- Spirit - plan to leave enough time for the new pre-game spirit
circles as well as warm up, this shows respect for your
teammates, opponents and yourself.
- Vocabulary -
terms you need to know for everything else.
- Rules
& Hand Signals - know and be ready to practice them.
On the sideline: who am I working with?
- know line captain & members
- know your typical Offensive and Defensive roles
- if you're not going on to play this point, who can you help from the
sideline?
- We want your feedback! Focus it through a coach/(spirit)
captain rather than everyone speaking in huddles or on the line.
On the line: start by listening to line captain
- handler or cutter?
- can I beat my defender, then raise hand!
- listen to the handler with the disc, before it gets picked
up, if there is a stoppage.
- On a turnover, Person defense is our default. Immediately
cover the deepest/closest threat first, then
recover/switch if possible.
- Defense:
- Person: Simple tips here, but if you're feeling
academic, here is my favorite
talk on how to play lock-down defense and think about
the game overall.
- choose a smart match-up
- count off
- Zone: In any version, communication always flows from the
deep towards the disc, with help from the sideline.
- know which
one we are playing that point.
- know what your role within that zone is.
- Turnover: immediately run to open space, regardless
of your primary role. Some of our best offensive
opportunities will be before the opposing defense can
mobilize. We don't have to take them, but we want to
threaten every time.
